Since 2017, the Los Angeles Chapter of The Climate Reality Project has grown into one of the largest and most active chapters in the country, where Angelenos from a wide range of backgrounds work together to educate on the truth of climate change and activate around solutions here in Los Angeles, across the state of California, the nation and the planet. This vital work doesn’t happen unless people step forward to lead it. And, as we shared in our recent Monthly Chapter Calls, that opportunity to step forward has arrived!

Lead on Climate

Between now and the end of March, our chapter will be going through the process of nominating and electing chairs for our various committees, and for the chapter as a whole. Here are some FAQs to help clarify the process and how you can participate in it.

What leadership roles are currently open?

Technically, all of them! Some of the current chairs are running for election again and some are not. Either way, you’re completely free to step forward as a candidate. (For a list of current leadership roles and how those plans currently stand, click here.)

How do I get nominated?

You can be nominated by another chapter member or simply nominate yourself! Please submit nominations to laclimatereality@gmail.com by February 28.

What is the election process?

At the Monthly Chapter Call on Feb. 28 at 5:30pm, candidates will be invited to give a brief statement and submit a one-paragraph nominee pitch to be included with the e-ballot sent out to our full chapter membership.

Can more than one person chair a committee?

YES! If they agree to it, two people can co-chair a committee or initiative together.

Can I propose a new committee to chair?

INDEED. You can propose a new committee or initiative! Please email laclimatereality@gmail.com to submit for consideration.

When will we know the results?

Voting will close at end of day on March 21. Votes will be tabulated and results announced via email. The new leadership will be formally introduced on the March 28 Monthly Chapter Call.

By stepping forward to lead, you become a deeper part of accelerating the transition to a clean energy economy, as well as a just, equitable and sustainable future. Deeper participation may bring more work, but it also brings a unique sense of fulfillment and inspiration. Whether you decide to run, or simply vote, thanks for all you do on behalf of our chapter and our planet!
