New Incentives Available in California for Building Electrification Projects
Income-qualified incentives for single family homes were rolled out this month.
November 17, 2024
California launched the single-family portion of its new rebate program for electric appliances this month. The HEEHRA program for single-family homes (defined as 1-4 units) joins the program for multi-family homes (5+ units), which went live last month. Both programs are available for area median income (AMI)-qualified properties and funded by the Inflation Reduction Act. They work by using a qualified contractor, who takes care of ensuring eligibility and other paperwork.
Eligibility Requirements
For 5+ unit multifamily homes, eligibility is based on the income of the occupants, with two tiers of eligibility:
Low income: more than 66% of units below 80% AMI
Moderate income: buildings in a disadvantaged community with 50% of units below 150% AMI
For 1-4 unit homes, incentives are available at two tiers (up to 80% AMI and up to 150% AMI)
Use this tool to help determine your eligibility.
For more details on eligibility requirements, visit the state’s official Tech Clean California page.
What’s Covered
Single family (1-4 units):
Energy Star certified heat pump HVACs
