For our November meeting, we were joined by David Girón, the Environment, Climate, and Energy policy advisor for Los Angeles City Councilmember Bob Blumenfield.
David has more than a decade of experience in Los Angeles public policy, having previously worked for Councilmembers Paul Koretz and Mitch O’Farrell. David played a part in the “LA100” study of pathways that Los Angeles can reach 100% carbon-free energy done, which underpinned the city’s commitment to achieve 100% carbon free energy by 2035.
In a conversation with LA Climate Reality Chair Charles Miller, David talked about how being a child of immigrants inspired him to pursue a career in politics, and what his experience working on LA100 and other LA City environmental policies taught him about the challenges of implementing policy.
This year, David Girón ran for State Assembly, drawing support from a number of environmental groups (LA Climate Reality does not endorse candidates), but failing to place in the top two in a crowded March primary field. David shared how he was able to respond to his electoral defeat and stay committed to implementing important environmental policies in Los Angeles, something we can all take inspiration from this November.
