LAUSD RESOLUTION ON CLIMATE LITERACY

On 2/8/22, the Los Angeles Unified School District(LAUSD) Board of Education unanimously passed a motion on the Climate Literacy Resolution. The good news is a huge achievement for the chapter and the Climate Curricula Committee. We celebrate Lucy Garcia's leadership and thank everyone who signed the petition, contacted the board members and made public comment.

As per a specific ask, we are trying to build a coalition of support that helps LAUSD prioritize full funding to successfully reach the goals of the resolution. This can come from individuals and organizations. It can be directed both at Lucy (climate.curricula@gmail.com) and the Board (boardmembers@lausd.net).

Do you know journalists, reporters, bloggers, writers who could look at this press release and write about it? Are you able to publish this story yourself? Would your employer, neighbor or friend publish this story in their e-newsletter, board, memo or catalogue?

Would you please spread the word to areas of the city that haven't heard about this, to join the committee or support it?

We really need connections to social science professors who might ask their grad students to prepare a baseline study of climate knowledge, attitudes and practices among teachers and students and staff in the LAUSD. More connections to immigrant, Black, Latine, and other community based organizations (CBO's) would be great. Someone who is a grant writer would very possibly be useful.

Are you ready to help half a million students learn by guiding and/or promoting our next steps?

Join the upcoming Climate Curricula Committee Call on every other Saturday at 2PM. We plan ambitious projects integrating climate learning, and climate justice into all subject matter. Please email climate.curricula@gmail.com for the Zoom link. Provides automated closed captions.
