MISSION

The Climate Curricula & Youth Action Committee is focused on bringing climate literacy education and environmental justice to all subjects and grade levels in the Los Angeles Unified School District.

The committee was successful in passing a climate literacy resolution with the LAUSD school board in February of 2022. With the passing of the resolution, over a half-a-million students, 30,000 teachers and over 1000 K-12 schools will be reached.

Please join the committee’s work of implementing the resolution and building youth leadership in the Climate Reality Project.

Email climate.curricula@gmail.com to join the committee.

LEADERSHIP

Eugenie Lewis, Co-Chair, Climate Curricula & Youth Action

Eugenie Lewis

Eugenie Lewis makes it her mission to support youth and people of all ages to have a good life – filled with hope and optimism through cross-generational work around climate change.

When it comes to climate activism, Eugenie’s motivation comes from young people and their passion to make the world more equitable, just, and sustainable. Her son Anthony inspires Eugenie by living a sustainable lifestyle in Winnipeg Canada. He has created a social media profile called the @cardependencyindex where he advocates for walkable, bikeable and livable cities. Her daughter Jasmine is the manager of farmer’s markets in Los Angeles, as part of the non-profit organization SEE-LA. She loves food in all its forms, and seeks to make healthy, fresh food more accessible to urban communities.  In Eugenie’s own youth, she was part of a high school group that arranged a school-wide presentation about the environment for the first Earth Day in 1970.

Eugenie’s professional work has focused on integrative physical and mental health services, school social work and positive youth development. In 2019, she started a company called Creative Life Mapping with the goal of providing career, education, self-discovery, growth and wellness services. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, career and college counselor and serves as a youth mental health advocate with the Los Angeles Department of Mental Health.  She has a particular interest in teaching about climate solutions, widening the circle of concern around climate change, and supporting people to learn and participate in “climate solutions careers”.

Eugenie is a member of the chapter’s Business Working Group and Legislative Committee, as well as active with the Sierra Club and Citizen’s Climate Lobby.
